Steinbeck does a fantastic job in this short novel communicating the full flavor of various small-towners’ lives. His straightforward yet oddly-extravagent delineation a slice of life in Cannery Row becomes a perfect literary snapshot and puts him in a field all his own when it comes to paying attention to the details that comprise life.
